A lied duo with extensive and solid experience invite us to meet some of the very best composers of Catalan and Spanish songs! In the album Legacy, Anna Alàs i Jové and Alexander Fleischer perform, with remarkable shared understanding, a number of beautiful song cycles. Some of these can be considered gems that are yet to be discovered, while others have already gained a justifiable reputation and are recognised works. It has given me, their erstwhile teacher, immense joy to see these young musicians become artists in their own right, capable of pursuing and achieving their own personal objectives. Already, during their studies in Berlin, Anna Alàs i Jové and Alexander Fleischer’s deep love for lieder impressed me, as did their unusually rich imaginative store and original ideas. And still today they continue to surprise me by their innovative projects, which are, simultaneously, rooted in tradition; development should, also, be a form of conservation. The present CD, Legacy, is a marvelous and exciting collection of musical works that in this performance – so heartfelt and full of sentiment – will move and inspire listeners. A wise selection that exudes artistic freedom and leads us into the terrain of humanity’s deepest feelings, where emotional and national barriers become meaningless. It is simply delicious to listen to these magnificent songs, and to experience the depth of musical understanding between Anna Alàs i Jové and Alexander Fleischer. Wolfram Rieger, pianist and lieder specialist.
